Ancient Egyptians may have been the first to discover that gold can be pounded into fine sheets and applied to almost any surface. The appeal of leafing, or gilding, has proved timeless and the process has changed very little over the centuries.
In our Italian workshop, sheets of pure gold - as thin as a micron - are placed on a primed surface and lightly brushed into place. When properly applied, the leaf creates a finish that’s more resilient than paint – making it a surprisingly practical choice for the world’s most beautiful domed buildings.
Our gold and silver leafed waste baskets, tissue covers and countertop accessories are produced in Italy, where gilders have flourished since the Renaissance.
